"Dead in Devon" by Stephanie Austin is a new author and new series for me. I wasn't sure at first but as I got more into the book I really enjoyed it.
Another new series and author. Not sure where I got the idea to read this book - perhaps from Rosie or BB? I found it a bit slow at first and wasn't keen on the main character but it did improve as it went on and I will try the next in the series.
I've been so wanting to read the latest Ruth Galloway novel and it finally came down in price. Actually I didn't enjoy it as much as the others probably because it brought back memories of how horrific the first lockdown was. Interesting ending though re: Michelle. I may have to buy the next book as soon as it comes out! Am I the only one who wants Ruth and Nelson to be able to live together?!
I really enjoyed this book on Castles - it was so informative and I learnt such a lot. If you like castles I would highly recommend this.
Garden
For some reason the hanging baskets were really disappointing this year but some plants are still flowering.
We are still getting tomatoes and aubergines although not enough tomatoes to make Green Tomato Chutney.
Honesty Seedheads
Michaelmas Daisies - one of my favourite flowers.
Ice Plants and Choisea is flowering again.
Pyracantha and Whitebeam berries - blackbirds are already tucking into the latter and leaves are starting to change colour.

It's been a strange year weather wise, so it's not surprising that things are still flowering or flowering for a second time. Will probably see a few more things again before Christmas. Little surprises to pop up as the weather turns colder. I know you haven't got enough green tomatoes for chutney or anything, but what about fried green tomatoes? I remember eating them when I lived in the South. That is Virginia, to be exact. Which isn't Deep South, by the way. They were actually delicious. I'm sure you'll come up with some way to use them.
Rustic Pumpkin - Thanks so much. With climate change etc flowering times seem all over the place. Buddleia is flowering again too perhaps rain after the drought helped. Oh fried green tomatoes sound good thank you for the idea.
there is always beauty to find in your garden even in the autumn. I've seen those books on amazon but have been really hooked on Faith Martin series of books because they are situated around Oxford
I bought some ice plants last year and am pleased with the way they survived all weathers. They seem to have been in bloom for weeks now. My fuchsias in hanging baskets have fared badly though.
Billy Blue Eyes - Thanks so much and you are right. I will have to check the Faith Martin series of books. I am slowly reading Inspector Morse set in that area but finding them a bit dated!
Midmarsh John - Thanks so much. Ice plants do seem to return every year. We have several ad a lovely maroon coloured one. Although that doesn't do so well as crowded out by other perennials. Its not been a good for fuchsias for us either.

Lovely post. You have some good colour still in your garden. Our choisia is flowering again too. I haven't read any of the Devon books I must look them up. The Dorset ones I have read are a spin off from her Birmingham ones and now she has a new series set in Glasgow with one of the Birmingham characters moving up there so all three series are interweaved with the same characters. Much as the Joy Ellis ones. I loved the Locked Room and yes as the next is Elly Griffiths's last of that series for now (she announced this on her facebook page which I follow), I hold out hopes that Ruth and Nelson will be together. We'll see:)
Rosie - Thanks so much. Devon books quite light reading but once I had "got into it" I did enjoy. Interesting about the Dorset books tying in with other series - thanks for the information. Heck didn't realise next RG book will be the last. I shall so miss RG I really will. Glad you agree about Ruth and Nelson! But I thought that might happen after Michelle had the unexpected baby but it was not to be! I am afraid I will be buying it as soon as it comes out!!!!!!
