Monday dawned frosty and very cold.
B and D went an early morning walk from Broomriggs, along the shores of Esthwaite to Hawkshead.
I didn't go on the walk so all the photos of beautiful frosty scenes are by D.

Today we decided to visit Grasmere and go for a walk along the shores of Rydal Water.
The first photos are again taken by D - I was relegated to the car back seat and as he was in the front it was easier to take photos!
It is a lovely drive and/or walk from Hawkshead to Ambleside.
The church at Brathay
Brathay River - we often stop here and walk along the lanes. It is a good site for Dipper and we have seen them nesting in the next bridge a bit further upstream.
The Bridge House at Ambleside - not the best of photos but we weren't going to stop and get a better one as Ambleside looked very busy!
We parked in a small car park by Brant Brows to start our walk along the shore of Rydal Water.
Rydal Water is one of the smallest lakes and very beautiful. It is enclosed between the slopes of Loughrigg Fell and the Fairfield Horseshoe.
As we walked I could not help but think how this lovely area inspired the poetry of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy's Journal. Most of the walk is along the lake shore but parts are through woodland.

When we reached the point where you climb upwards and then descend to Grasmere (lake) D and E were keen to carry on walking to the town of Grasmere above the shores of the lake. The problem with this idea was that the car was back at Rydal and we would have a long walk back so guess who drew the short straw and retraced her steps to the car driving it to Grasmere?
When I reached the end of Rydal Water and the start of our walk instead of climbing back through the wood I crossed over a bridge and walked back to the car park by the road.
The church at Rydal Mount - I really would have liked to visit this home of Wordsworth again and also Dove Cottage but time did not allow.
