The oak tree I can see from our static caravan is now showing a definite tint of green :)
On Tuesday we went to have a look one of our favourite villages - the very picturesque Eardisland which is on the "Black and White Village Trail". The village has many timber framed cottages some of which date back to the 15th century.
We parked by the River Arrow - on our last two visits both B and E saw a kingfisher (which I missed both times) but there was no sign today.

The Grade 2 listed Dovecote dates back to c1700. It fell out of use in the 19th century and became derelict but was restored in 1999. It is now a community shop mainly open for a few hours in the morning. The upper part contains around 850 nesting and roosting holes.
The Cross Inn contains mainly 15th century timber framing.
The AA phone box dates back to the 1920's and is apparently the oldest in the country. It was restored in 2000.

I have no idea what this little building is - it was located on a green in front of some newer houses.
This gorgeous cottage - Toad Hall - was on the market last autumn for £450K. I did see it at the time and was very tempted I have to admit. If I had realised how lovely it was in "real life" I might have been more than tempted. A bargain missed!!! Round some parts of Solihull and Warwickshire you would be lucky to get a poky semi detached with a pocket size garden for that price! I know which I would rather have!!!!
From the churchyard you can see this tree topped mound Pevsner calls it a probable motte and an information board in the village suggested it was a Saxon castle mound. It was a feature I had missed on previous visits. I'll visit the church in the next post.
We had a late picnic lunch in the car and then on the way back stopped off at Monklands Cheese Dairy Shop to buy some cheese, Herefordshire Honey and a homemade barbecue sauce.

You do have some lovely places round and about to visit. Interesting historically too. Tree watch has commenced then? Toad Hall looks amazing, but I bet it comes with a top end upkeep account too! Waving at Himself!

Rustic Pumpkin - Thanks so much. So many lovely and interesting places not too far away is one of the reasons why I love Herefordshire. Yes Warwickshire has them too but many are in South Warwickshire which is 40 plus mins away from North Warks and involves motorways which are often congested! Yes you are right OH always said he wouldn't live in thatched property - rethatching costs although Toad Hall looks fairly newly done and I think you have to have electrics checked yearly. Timothy waves back.

Bovely Belle - Thanks so much. It is a very lovely village as are Pembridge, Weobley and Dilwyn. All 4 are fairly close to each other.
The village is lovely, I enjoyed all your photos. No wonder it is one of your favourites. I love the AA box. I remember them so well and the AA bike riders who put up their hand to members. My Dad joined at Landsend one holiday when we'd travelled there in a motorbike and side car - I was small and in the back of the side car behind my Mum:)
Rosie - Thanks so much. Eardisland is exceptionally picturesque!!! Yes I remember the AA man salute too when he saw your badge. Before Dad had a car we used to go out every weekend in my grandfather's car. Dad and Granpy in the front me on a little seat put over the hand brake!!!! and Mum, Nana and my brother in the back!!! All in the days before seatbelts of course!!!!
Guess your foot isn't too bad then! I adore these black and white villages so keep on posting them! Yes please to the thatched cottage - shame about missing that! Talking of which, have your neighbours started their building work yet?

Millymollmandy Thanks so much :) Slowy getting better thanks and doesn't hurt to walk now!!! That thatched cottage is so gorgeous and very reasonable price wise. Round here Warks would cost more like a million!!!!!!! No re: neighbours thank goodness. But still dreading it and still umming and aahing about moving and where to. We don't speak to them now OH had words with the woman - she came round and expected him to go round theirs front and back garden and trim all our hedges, trees, shrubs that were overhanging their garden and also suggested we have our beloved whitebeam tree cut down as it shades their garden. She also said if they got someone in to do it would send us the bill!!!! 3 men live there her OH and 2 sons in their 20's and none seem to go to work so why they can't do it is anyone's guess! OH told her where to go!!!!!!!!
