After walking back to the castle and eating a late lunch of a sandwich in the car we went a brief walk round Wigmore Village (mainly because D had seen a community shop and he wanted to buy an onion for tea to go with hot dogs!)
Isn't this carving above a front door wonderful? D thinks the mythological creature are gryphons?
Oakley House was built c1600.
Burgage Farm
Two post boxes more or less opposite each other. One from the reign of George V and one from the reign of Elizabeth II.
Good to see that the person serving in the shop and customers were all wearing masks.
Chapel House
Parts of the village and the surrounding countryside reminded me of the Lake District perhaps it was the smell of open fires or log burners?
Mistletoe in trees near the caravan.
Marked on the os map near the caravan are the words "Fort" which is at the top of the hill in the photo below near Docklow.
The tree I am watching at the caravan - now with a definite hint of autumn colour. Hopefully, when we visit again it will be showing even more. I suspect we may make two more short trips before closing it down for the winter. The caravan site this year does stay open until end of the December but I don't think we shall be going that late in the year.
I probably would have stopped another night but D was keen to get home so we left Friday lunchtime planning to stop somewhere on the journey back. I did plan Brockhampton but its now closed for the winter so we went a short walk on Bromyard Downs instead.

Just done a bit of a catch up on your posts, you've packed plenty in your days at the caravan. The views around Wigmore Castle are gorgeous!
Wigmore Village looks lovely with all its old houses and cottages. I'm glad that everyone was wearing masks in the community shop, I think villages who can run them benefit quite a lot especially in the winter. I hope the weather stays mild for your next visit to the caravan although I keep thinking it can't go on for much longer, it's quite warm and sunny here today:)

Rosie - Thanks so much. The community village shops are a lovely idea - we saw one in Yarpole too in the church. Here at the moment and yes it is mild and fairly sunny too. Looks colder next week though.

We drove through Wigmore on our way back from somewhere recently. As we drove through I saw - belatedly - the sign for Wigmore Castle, so we will have to have a little jaunt out and visit.
Bromyard Downs look lovely. Tried to persuade K to go home via Bromyard from Malvern Antiques Fair recently but he just wanted to get home.
Bovey Belle - Thanks so much. Well worth a visit. I've got fascinated by the Mortimers and recently joined The Mortimer History Society and bought Logaston Press book On the Trail of the Mortimers. So hopefully lots more places to visit probably next year now.
Hope you go through Bromyard again soon.
