Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary's Warwick

After looking round the market stalls and market place at the Victorian Fayre Warwick we then went along to visit the opening night of the Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary's. Combined with the poppies the church looked so lovely although visiting on the night of the Victorian Fayre was perhaps not the best of ideas as it was heaving with people. There were over 40 Christmas trees on display.

Unfortunately I did not have a pen with me so couldn't make a note of the people/organisations that decorated each tree but I do remember this tree was exhibited by History and Culture Warwickshire.

I loved this lady's "pearly" costume.

Tiny lions on Robert Dudley's tomb in the Beauchamp Chapel.

In my post on the poppies at St Mary's I mentioned it was difficult to get photos of the fantastic carvings round the window in the Chapel due to sunlight shining on them but I managed to take a few photos this time. The painted figures are the largest collection of 15th century carvings in the country. There are figures representing the nine orders of angels - seraphim, cherubim, thrones, dominations, virtues, powers, principalities, angels and archangels. There are also 4 saints representing Catherine of Alexandria carrying the sword which martyred her, Mary Magdalene carrying a pot of ointment used to annoint Jesus, Margaret of Antioch standing on the dragon which ate her and Barbara holding a tower and a key. Hopefully, I will return one day and get better photos.

An 18th century clock which I missed on the last visit.

By the time we came out of the church and returned to Market Square the crowds seem to have trebled and you couldn't move! so we decided it was time to make our way home.

How lovely, the trees look wonderful. The carvings are magnificent and I love the blue of the clock. We are hoping to get to Bakewell for the Christmas Tree Festival next week:)

There are some amazing decorative pieces in that Church, thank you for posting them.

That Pearly outfit looks as if it might be very heavy!

Did you not take Timothy?!

Toffeeapple - Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed! I agree about the pearly outfit!!

Yes, I had Timothy in my bag - he would have looked good in the photo with the other teddies but to be honest it was heaving with people and it was shuffle shuffle all the way round so not easy to get him out and posing! Plus the others had disappeared - I think they went round and got out as quick as they could! so I was a bit worried where they had gone to and rushed round quicker than I would have liked to!
