A record of wildlife in my garden and various trips to the Warwickshire countryside and occasionally further afield.

Just Back from the Isle of Wight
We've just got back from a lovely week on the beautiful Isle of Wight - lots of photos to sort through!!
Sorry for late publication of some of your comments - I will respond tomorrow and will also catch up on your blog posts over the next week. Hope you are all well and coping with the heat!!!
Welcome home! I have always thought that the Isle of Wight would be a really interesting place to visit. I will probably never get there but now I will be able to through your eyes.
David Gascoigne - Thanks so much David. Must admit we all love the Isle of Wight - have been about 14 times now and dream of moving there. If you want to see places we have visited in some of the last few years click on the label "Isle of Wight" but be warned there are a lot of posts and photos!!! We visited a few of our favourite places this time round and managed to find a few new things to do.
What I am really hoping to see is some of the natural history of this island, which I understand has a climate, topography and vegetation quite different from other UK locales.
It's many many years since I was last there (I remember seeing a Stinking Gladdon for the first time too!!)
Of course, when I lived in Southampton we rather took the IoW for granted. Now I would love to visit again - just the ferry trip across there is a joy!
David Gascoigne - Thanks. There will be some natural history but it was a family holiday with my son and daughter and we have to try and go to places that please everyone. Sadly, we didn't have chance to visit Newtown NR this time which is good for butterflies in hedgerows and woods and has a great estuary walk good for birds. There may be a label for the place under Labels for past visits. You might also like to check out the one on Shanklin Chine - skip through the Niton and thatched cottage bits to the Chine - which has a fascinating topography and microclimate and special species. Also there is a Red Squirrel photo - Red Squirrels do well on the Isle of Wight due to there being no Greys.
Rosie - Thank you. It was a good week although a trifle hot at the beginning!!! I do hope you will manage to get there one day - I am sure you would both love it.

Welcome to my blog. I have been interested in natural history from an early age and we have tried to create a garden attractive to wildlife. I also enjoy reading, photography, collecting fossils, visiting historic buildings and gardens and supporting Aston Villa. Please feel free to leave a comment and, if you would like to email me, my email address is ciraggedrobinsATgmail.com - remember to replace AT with @. Thank you for visiting.

Bovey Belle - Thank you - rather envious of the Stinking Gladdon - don't think I have ever seen one. Will do some research before next visit.
The ferry crossing does make it rather special - my son and daughter loved it when little.
How wonderful! Hope you had a super week, the weather was glorious for you. Look forward to reading more of your visit later:)

I hope you had a fabulous holiday.
CherryPie - Thank you and yes we had a lovely time apart from it being a bit too hot at the beginning!
