Mrs Blue Tit has been busy laying an egg a day and there are now six eggs in the nest. She has been covering the eggs with feathers during the day so you might not be able to make out the sixth.
Although she is roosting in the nestbox overnight she has not yet started incubating during the day so I would imagine at least one more egg will be laid.
Due to recent inclement weather I haven't been out birding and I haven't put out the moth trap either. The weather is actually dry, sunny and warm today (for a change) and it was heartening to see a male orange tip butterfly in the garden this morning!

Hi Caroline, that is excellent news! How wise they are to nest in boxes or holes in tree trunks. I dread to think how many nests were destroyed in the horrendous weekend weather. Talking of which, my lovely, ancient white Lilac tree was brought down yesterday and then just to complete the day we had a power cut last night :-(
How sweet to see the nest filling with eggs. I,too, have been so relieved to see the sun today, I was beginning to despair of ever seeing it again.
Shy Songbird - The effect of the rain on nesting birds just doesn't bear thinking about - one of Dean's latest blog postings on destroyed nests due to rain makes awful reading.
Am really worried about the wren's nest in the garden too.
That is awful news about your lilac tree - so sad (you must be feeling devastated) as you can't just replace something so old. A power cut must have been the final straw.
Toffeeapple - It is rather special watching the nesting attempt! It was lovely to see sunshine, as you say, today - makes everything seem more positive and cheerful!
