A few months ago the small wildflower meadow in the garden was a mass of pink blooms as the campion came into flower.
The red and white campions followed by burnet, ribwort plaintain and tufted vetch have now almost completely given way to a mass of St John's Wort flowers. The bumble bees love these flowers and its good to note this year that we are getting a lot of visits from the red-tailed bumble bee which I hardly saw in the garden last year.
There are several knapweed plants and these are very attractive to insects too. Various grasses are starting to flower and, although there are nowhere near as many oxeye daisies as a few years ago, a few have survived. No sign (yet) of the ragged robin which flowered last year.
The perennial bed in the garden is starting to look colourful though not a patch on those at Baddesley Clinton!
