November Visit to Herefordshire - Part1: Hatfield and Leominster

We returned to Herefordshire last week for four nights - we found it much easier travelling back on the Saturday traffic wise than on a Friday.  We went on Tuesday and, as we are still trying to use up food, we just stopped off in Bromyard for a few items rather than having the usual click and collect at Morrisons in Leominster.

We were lucky with the weather as it remained dry although there were a few misty mornings  on a few of the days. I didn't feel 100 per cent as I had managed to catch B's cold and on top of that the week before cellulitis had returned yet again which meant another week on antibiotics.

Timothy back on his shelf.

The Herefordshire Oak with definite autumnal tints!

This photo was taken from a different part of the site but sadly the telephone wires or whatever they are still get in the way!

The Octopus Tree - looking much like the visit a few weeks ago.

The Constable Tree still seems to have retained some leaves!

Autumnal colours in the Copse

One morning we watched a Green Woodpecker foraging near to the caravan.  Some record shots - some taken when it was still misty!

On the Friday we popped into Leominster - I've included the photos in this post as I didn't take many.  I hoped to buy a few Christmas presents but sadly didn't really find anything suitable.

As you can see they are still re-doing the Town Square!

On the Wednesday we went for a local walk in Hatfield and I'll write about that in the next post.

All photos taken by me with the Panasonic Lumix FZ330 bridge camera. (I don't particularly rate my photos but if anyone wishes to use one of mine or my son's I would be grateful for an email first - thanks).

The town square looks distinctly round to me! Here, our Cross Square, with the 14th century prayer cross, is a triangle.
Autumnal colour seems to have arrived there.
Hope you are feeling better soonest.

Thanks so much Debbie - cold slowly going and just hoping cellulitis doesn't return! Amazing the different shapes town squares can be!!! Definitely looking autumnal now in Herefordshire :)

Green woodpeckers are magnificent aren't they. Big too, not far off the size of a pigeon!

Sorry to hear that you have had a cold and that you had to take more anti-biotics. Hope things ease soon. Good that you could get away for a few days. the trees have changed so much since your last visit and how wonderful to see the Green Woodpecker, I've only managed to see two of those over the years and both times in Wales. Love the old street names:)

Thanks so much Rosie. Cold slowly going thank goodness :) I haven't seen that many Green Woodpeckers either. I used to see them at Brandon Marsh NR and we have had just one sighting in the garden at home and the sightings in Herefordshire.

Lovely photos of the Green Woodpecker. Sorry the Cellulitis has flared up again. I am still waiting for a proper diagnosis - sample went in on Monday too . . . Gosh, they're taking their time at Leominster with the work on the market place.

Thanks so much BB. I am getting totally fed up with recurring cellulitis tbh - it is so debilitating :( Hope you get a proper diagnosis soon and the correct medication.I think the shop keepers are fed up with work in Leominster - baker's and cheese shop have closed and the butcher's although I think the latter was because butcher retired.

The Herefordshire Tree is certainly on the turn now! Love the copse colours - gorgeous in the sunshine, and the green woodpecker shots are great. I'm glad you managed another trip there to make the most of it before you have to close it for the winter.

Thanks so much Mandy. I couldn't believe how long the woodpecker stayed around!!! It was good to stay for 4 nights and have longer here. Would like to try and stay for at least a week at a time!
