Yesterday I tried a church in a more rural location
where the churchyard is surrounded on two sides by broadleafed woodland.
There were some nice stone faces on the side of the church
but not a spotted flycatcher to be seen!
In fact, during the hour I spent there the only bird I saw was a wood pigeon!
There were plenty of meadow browns and "whites" flying around and a toadstool as large as a teaplate - the wildlife highlights of my trip!

Churches are normally good for Spotted Flycatchers. Hanwell church on the Ox/Warwick borderis a place nearish to you i've seen them
Thanks for that tip Pete. If local searches fail I may have to consider travelling. There's a churchyard a bit further on that Brandon Marsh where they have been seen this year too.
We did have one once in the garden - passing through on migration - but I'd be very lucky if that happend again!
