Isle of Wight - Day 4 (29th June) : Blackgang Chine


Family holidays are always a bit of a compromise as you try to find things to do that please everyone. So on Monday the vote went to Blackgang Chine which has something for everyone of all ages and is set in beautiful gardens.

It is the UK's oldest amusement park and was named after a now-destroyed Chine in the soft Cretaceous cliffs.






There have always been dinosaur models here but there is now a new and excellent area with life-size moving dinosaurs - brilliant for children :)

The closest I was to get to seeing a Granville Fritillary all holiday!!

After turns on the Water Slides and Cliff Hanger Roller Coaster we went to have a look round various exhibitions - Timber World and Coastline










In the evening we went for a meal at The Buddle Inn (a 16th Century Smuggler's Inn with a great atmosphere and food). We've been visiting for years and I would highly recommend :)



Sorry for all the photos as I appreciate an amusement park might have limited appeal!! The next post will include a trip on the Down's Breezer Bus and Arreton Craft Farm with a medieval pond and old church.

    I got to within a hair's breadth of Glanvilles this Spring. Next year I will hopefully make it over to the Island on time!

    Aha I remember Blackgang Chine, well very vaguely as it was summer 1972! Isn't this the place where you get the multi coloured sands as well? I think we all came home with those test tubes of stripey sand! Nice Glanville Fritillary. ;-) Don't worry about replying because I've read of your computer woes.

    I also figured out why I sometimes appear as anonymous. Wen I click on Publish your Comment, nothing happens but it changes my ID from MMM to Anonymous. I now change it back, click the Publish button a second time and it publishes! Must be a glitch somewhere.

    Millymollymandy thanks. Am slowly persevering with kindle! Alum bay is where the coloured sands are. Horribly commercialised these days:(
