Brief Visit to Winterbourne House Gardens
Family chauffeuring this morning meant I had an hour spare to do my usual dash over to Winterbourne House and Gardens. I've done quite a few posts now on this house and garden so won't go too much into the history on this occasion. But the garden is one of the best examples of an Edwardian Arts and Crafts Suburban Villa Garden.
As I had so little time I just concentrated on the Walled Garden and Glasshouses.
Walled Garden
Gravel and Rock Garden
I have quite a fondness for stone troughs filled with plants and there were quite a few in this part of the garden.
The Alpine House
Cactus House
It was that hot today that for once the camera lens didn't steam up the minute I walked in the Orchid House.
I spent most of the time looking in one of the other glasshouses as part of my #30DaysWild but I'll cover that in a post over the weekend.
I love it when you suddenly have a spare hour adn dash around photographing a beautiful garden. I would do the same. I love all your images.
ReplyDeleteNow that looks like a garden that I could spend days just meandering around, thank you for sharing Robin.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson - Thanks very much Margaret - so glad you enjoyed the post! The only difficult part is dragging myself away!
ReplyDeleteJohn Wooldridge - Thanks John - the whole garden is a complete delight. Have persuaded OH its worth a visit when we'll have time to explore the whole garden.
It is a lovely place and I do enjoy you photos from here, I would want to take it all home with me...
ReplyDeleteAmanda xx
Amanda Peters - Thanks Amanda. I wish I lived closer to it - I would be there at least once a week!! They had some great plants for sale too - much cheaper than the nurseries. I need more borders in the garden!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic place - walled gardens rock and the added interest of having the alpine, orchid and cacti houses is even better. Lovely photos. :-)
ReplyDeleteMMM by the way in case it turns me anonymous...... :-)
Millymollymandy - Lol! :) Not this time its not anonymous! :) The gardens were a wonderful discovery - will do a post one day on the whole of the gardens as OH is keen to visit and we can go when we have the day free :) Didn't risk the Canon this time! Need to practise more with garden flowers!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling ok - tried to leave a reply to your response to my comment on your last post but failed but glad to hear you were able to do some weeding.
Some wonderful plants and colours. I feel summer is reaching us at last! Thank you for your ladybird comment.
ReplyDeleteCaroline Gill - Thanks so much Caroline. Much improvement in the weather over the last few days :)
ReplyDeleteCaught up at last after a week in Argyll at the beginning of May!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post this has been, thank you.
Toffeeapple - Thanks so much - so glad you enjoyed :)
ReplyDeleteSeem to remember you had a good holiday :)
I find it almost impossible to catch up after a week away! - its hard enough catching up after a few days - so well done on getting there :)
I know it's difficult to answer sometimes but which of the houses was your favorite. I love the Cactus House personally, but only because it's near and dear to my heart. Love the structural type plants a lot.
ReplyDeleteChris Rohrer - Thanks for the comment Chris :) It is difficult to answer because I loved all the houses. The Orchid house was rather special - if a trifle humid!!! but my favourite was the carnivorous plant house featured in the 30 days wild post!
