Time to Put Away the Moth Trap!

The last two moth trapping sessions have failed to yield any moths!

Friday, 26th October
15w Actinic Skinner Trap
Min Temp -0.2 degrees centigrade
Moths 0

and

Sunday, 4th November
15w Actinic Skinner Trap
Min Temp 0.1 degrees centigrade
Moths 0

So unless we get a very mild spell over the next few months I will probably put away the trap until next Spring.

Its been a poor year for moths so roll on next year!

  1. Couldn't agree more, it has been a terrible year even in the height of summer, no wonder we are struggling now! leaf-mines are all that are worth it!

  2. Bennyboymothman Bad year for garden butterflies too - the worst I can remember.

Leafmines look fascinating - I find a lot on bramble leaves when collecting them to feed the stick insects. Am going to try and swot up on micro moths over the winter using the brilliant new "bible"!

  3. I'm sorry about your research and fun. I hope next year is better. You had so much rain this year. Could that have been the cause?

  4. Rohrerbot - Thanks. I think the rain must have been a factor plus cool temps. Not too worry hopefully next year will be better :)

  5. Hi Caroline, A year worth writing off all round Nature wise I think....surely next year has to be better!

I meant to say what fun the topiary was on the Rollright post :-)

  6. ShySongbird Hi Jan - Yes nature wise it has been a really poor year. All of my year lists (birds, moths, flutters) are the lowest I can ever remember them being. Although it has been a good year for wildflowers I think :) Hopefully, next year has to be better!!!

Glad you liked the topiary - it was outside the farmshop/nurseries/cafe - have you been there?
