Still no Moths!

GMS Week 11

I ran the moth trap last night (minimum temperature 4.2 degrees centigrade) and yet again not a moth in sight!

There have been a few highlights in the garden this week though - Brian spotted a Bullfinch on the sunflower heart feeder early yesterday morning. This species is an occasional visitor to the garden (about once or twice a year) but it has never come for food before.

I saw my first garden Holly Blue a few minutes ago and male Orange Tips were in the garden on Monday and Friday.

Mrs Blue Tit is still incubating the eggs getting the occasional visit from the male bringing in food for her. Hopefully, we will have a "happy event" in the next few days!

  1. How exciting to see your first Holly Blue, not so good news about the lack of moth activity though. Fingers crossed for the Blue Tits. Linda

  2. You're doing better with butterflies than I am! Yes, I suspect you will have plenty of Blue Tit activity to entertain you very soon :-)

  3. Strange about the moths. Sparrows, moths, and bees? Where are they all going? Hope they are just elsewhere:) This morning I woke up and there weren't any birds at the feeders which made me think.....where are they? I have a hunch that a hawk was nearby:) The sparrows and house finches are back again....nature is fun to watch. Enjoy your weekend!

  4. Kirkstall Creatures - Yes, I was pleased to see the Holly Blue - also a Speckled Wood later. Nice to see the sunshine bringing out the butterflies. Hopefully the moths will return :)

ShySongbird - I'll hopefully do a post when the eggs hatch. Having computer problems with the desktop at the moment so am having to rely on a laptop with no mouse and none of my software!

Chris - Sparrowhawks clear the feeders pretty quick here too! Have a great weekend.

  5. How lovely to see a Holly Blue, it has been a few years since I last saw one. I hope the hatching goes well and that all will fledge.

  6. Toffeeapple - I do hope you manage to see another Holly Blue soon (such pretty little butterflies). Many thanks for the good wishes re: the blue tits. I will post when the eggs start to hatch!
