More of the Same!

Not a lot to report on the moth trapping front - there were no new species for the year or garden in the trap over the weekend. So here's the summary:

Saturday, 9th July

10.00 until dawn
Minimum temperature 8.0 degrees centigrade
15w Actinic Skinner Trap

Uncertain x 19
Heart and Dart x 8
Dark Arches x 2
Dun-bar x 1
Shoulder-striped Wainscot x 1
Buff Arches x 1
Rustic x 1

Micros

Bird Cherry Ermine x 1
Garden Grass Veneer x 1

There were 9 macro moths that I think were probably Uncertain but were much too worn for me to positively id so they are not included in the above figures

Number of species trapped in the garden in 2011 = 58

Number of total species trapped in the garden (since 2009) = 117

The photos below illustrate the difficulties of separating Uncertain from Rustic!

Using the id criteria I found on Garden Moths Yahoo group the first picture illustrates (hopefully!!) Uncertain where the median area shading passes the kidney and the Antimedial line towards the top of the wing can usually be clearly seen.

Uncertain

Whereas in the Rustic the shading in the median area is much fainter and the antemedial line consists just of dots.

Rustic

All being well the above id's are correct but, of course, if I am hopelessly wrong please leave a comment!
