Last week we finally managed to return to Herefordshire for four nights.
We went on the Tuesday and in the evening went for a lovely meal at the Fountain Inn as it was our wedding anniversary.
The Herefordshire Oak - definite signs of autumn tints in the leaves now.
There is not much change in the Constable Tree or the
Octopus Tree although you can see the latter more clearly now than you could a few months ago.
The copse and golden yellow leaves on the aspens.
D's rubeckias are still flowering well.
There are hawthorn berries galore. Hopefully, we will see Redwings feasting on them on a future visit. Redwings seem to be arriving in the country at the moment.
I brought D's chilli pepper plant home with us. He will freeze the ripe chillis and try and overwinter the plant for next year.
The garden
These are the first apples (it is a cooking apple that is sweeter than a Bramley) we picked. Before we left we harvested them all and brought them home in a large bag.
On the Wednesday we went into Tenbury Wells to buy petrol, bird food and do some shopping at Tesco.
The River Teme
Ivy flowers and some berries forming.
Ash keys
Back at home we have a Fly Agaric in the garden. We have a lot of silver birch trees and the trees and toadstool have a symbiotic relationship. Fly Agaric have mycorrhizal relationships with silver birches and other trees. Warning! Not to be eaten!
On the Friday I visited nearby St Leonard's church which was holding a Harvest Festival and I will write about that in my next post.
I am sorry for lack of blog posts recently. To be honest I haven't been out much and have had little to blog about and I am still not getting much sleep. In addition B has had a lot of hospital appointments recently. On top of that the shower has decided to pack up! It is under guarantee as it was bought only 8 months ago. Rather than replacing it we are having to put up with an engineer visit later this week which means tidying the bathroom and clearing out the airing cupboard :(
Photos taken by me with the Panasonic Lumix FZ330 bridge camera and the photo labelled D was taken by my son with the Canon SX50HS bridge camera. (I don't particularly rate my photos but if anyone wishes to use one of mine or my son's I would be grateful for an email first - thanks).
Good to see you back. The Oak tree looks wonderful at the moment and those apples look tasty, apple cakes and pies perhaps? Sorry to hear about the shower, what a nuisance. When we got home from meeting friends last week we found the heating had gone off and tripped the lights as well. Luckily they were on a different circuit to everything else so we could switch on lamps, we managed to get it sorted the next day but like you it meant an engineer in the bathroom airing cupboard where all the controls are:( Hope all goes well:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rosie. The shower tripped something or other in our fuse box too. I wish I had confidence engineer will repair it but somehow I have my doubts. At least there is a shower at the caravan! Pleased you managed to get your heating etc sorted. It is such a nightmare when things like this happen.
ReplyDeleteYou know I have not seen a Fly Agaric at all this year down at Fforest Fields, normally I have been coming across a few but this year only different mushrooms.
ReplyDeleteThanks Billy. We've had them in the garden the last few years and usually see some at Hatfield Herefordshire. But this is my first sighting this year.
Deletepleased you got back! I'm a bit like you not visiting many places! not sure why in my case!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pete. i do missing going out but there is so much going on atm that it is difficult. I see you have been to Audley off to read your post :)
DeleteSorry you are suffering from insomnia as it’s really horrible. Not to mention the other things going on at the moment.Hope the shower can be fixed asap!
ReplyDeleteLove the fly agaric and your garden has looked still interesting and colourful these last few months - and productive too!
Thanks so much Mandy. As you say insomnia is horrible and it has got worse recently. Worrying about B and other things isn't helping. Thanks re the shower. Engineer came down and replaced faulty shower with a new one. Fingers crossed now have a shower again thank goodness!
DeleteChuffed to bits with the Fly Agaric :)
Good to see you back. I had a shower repair last week too, and am waiting on a quote to put a new shower and base, door etc in the en-suite. I'm cutting up windfalls right now - from a friend's tree. She just leaves them to rot, which seems such a waste.
ReplyDeleteThanks BB.. It was good to go back to Herefordshire. Thankfully the engineer replaced the faulty shower with a new one which fingers crossed is fine. I think we shall try and store most of the apples to use for crumbles and pies and I still need to make some apple chutney.
DeleteHappy anniversary to you both, I hope you had a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your current life complications. I hope they settle down soon.
CherryPie - Thank you and yes we had a lovely day. Thanks too for good wishes.
