I checked out birdlife before I went - they used to have a really healthy population of Hawfinches (a bird I would dearly love to see and once missed by seconds at The Forest of Dean :( ) but I think there are very few seen there these days :( Ragged Robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14090463834740346114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8320975515799225099.post-36560464089717640512014-11-24T18:26:26.535+00:002014-11-24T18:26:26.535+00:00What an extremely cool place. 450 acres doesn'...What an extremely cool place. 450 acres doesn't seem like much but at least there is some of the original forest left there. I had to type in Sherwood Forest into my program and see what kinds of birds are seen there. It looks like it would be a lot of to explore. Thanks for the pics and tour!Rohrerbothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02136631378931478644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8320975515799225099.post-64415861306948263582014-11-11T16:17:15.639+00:002014-11-11T16:17:15.639+00:00Amanda Peters I do hope your hand and arm continu...Amanda Peters I do hope your hand and arm continue to improve and that they decide to leave the other hand until after Christmas.

I struggled and worried about this year's survey too - all the extra species and rushes, grasses etc., were a real problem. I'd been fine the year before with just the 200 that in the main I already recognised. Yes, I did send in this year's (although I never got time to do a second visit) results but there were quite a few species still unidentified. I also left it to the very last minute before submitting (by post). I am so behind with my wildlife records this year. I was lucky with my square as it was in Brueton Park (which I am familiar with). I think people have requested a better id guide for next year so hopefully that might help if they do produce one. I think I will give it a go next year and hope for a good plot!!! Then take it from there.

Good Luck with the return to work!Ragged Robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14090463834740346114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8320975515799225099.post-64559863905214597582014-11-11T11:10:52.927+00:002014-11-11T11:10:52.927+00:00Thanks RR, might be going back to work next week ...Thanks RR, might be going back to work next week after been of now six weeks!!( like been off to much) must say hand and arm are ok , but not quite as good as I had expected. Hoping they will leave my other hand till after Christmas now..
As for Plantlife, I found it to hard to get my head round the new notes they sent out this year and was stressing out trying to record every thing on a plot I don't often visit, so took the decision not to submit my findings. If they send me out a pack next year I will have another go I think. I have tried to get the Park as my plot as there is a lot here to record, but you have to go where they choose.
So did you send in your findings ?Amanda Petershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16760505541954557539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8320975515799225099.post-31026280977557241862014-11-11T10:54:23.670+00:002014-11-11T10:54:23.670+00:00Amanda Peters - Also meant to say hope you are rec...Amanda Peters - Also meant to say hope you are recovering well from your operation and your wrist/arm is feeling a lot better.
I also meant to ask if you'd had an email from Plantlife re: changes to Wildflower Count. It looks to me as though you won't in future be able to do the pathway walk and count species? I am not sure if you did the walk or the plot? Also looks as though square allocated may change? I just wondered if you were going to sign up for next year?Ragged Robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14090463834740346114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8320975515799225099.post-36171258383313052472014-11-11T10:36:32.132+00:002014-11-11T10:36:32.132+00:00Amanda Peters - Thanks so much Amanda - definitely...Amanda Peters - Thanks so much Amanda - definitely well worth a visit. Autumn and Spring time in woods are just magical - I can never work out which I prefer :) Interesting about the fence - perhaps they have moved it further back over the years? D's interested in photography and I've finally persuaded him to ditch the ancient Fuji and we've gone halves on a bridge camera. (My half will be a Cmas/bday present from B!!).

We decided in the end on the Canon SX 50 HS. (The new SX60 would have been even better but too expensive!!). I'll still use the Olympus dslr most of the time but have the bridge camera for when I visit nature reserves.

Margaret Adamson - Thanks so much Margaret :) Yes, its a very interesting area with a lot to see and do :)

Countryside Tales - Thanks so much.
