Isle of Wight

Just back from a week on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

Will catch up on your blogs over the next few days - sorry for late publication of some of your comments but I only made one visit to blogger over the holiday.

Hope you are all well.

Looking forward to seeing more of where you visited on the island. We have to go over there at some point to visit my husband's cousin who works for the National Trust as a coastal warden. Husband also wants to visit the Dinosaur Museum and I want to see Osbourn House and Julia Margaret Cameron's home at Freshwater Bay. We are delaying because of our very sick and elderly cat whom we can't leave for more than a couple of days at a time at the moment:)

Rosie - Thanks so much. Am so sorry to hear about your cat being so poorly - it is so difficult when you have elderly pets especially where holidays are concerned. I used to go through agonies over leaving our rabbits with other people. These days we just have stick insects so I can leave them at home with a week's supply of bramble!

You will love the Isle of Wight - I am not sure if you have been before but in my view it is just idyllic. I am envious of your husband's cousin's job - sounds perfect :) There are two Dinosaur Museums - the one in Sandown is newish and really very good and then there is the Dinosaur Farm Museum not far from Brook/Brighstone which is small but charming. When my son was little we went on an organised fossil hunt Compton Bay which was great fun. Osbourne House, although we didn't go this time is superb (gardens, grounds and house - allow a day!!!). We went to Dimbola (Julia Cameron's home and museum) for the first time this year and I enjoyed it immensely. Carisbrooke Castle is well worth a visit and Mottistone Manor gardens (NT) are smallish but lovely - if you go there visit the church opposite (superb plus a lovely wildflower haven of a churchyard) I do believe Benedict Cumberbatch got married there!! :) Sorry for such a long reply as you can see I can wax lyrical about the place for ever and a day. Also if you have been before you will already know of the many lovely lovely places you can go to so apologies for repeating what you may already know! :)

Sounds wonderful. It's the Sandown Museum Paul wants to visit as he's been in touch with them about pterosaurs, the other one sounds great. I visited when I was a child and later when I was a teenager, we stayed at the same B&B in Shanklin both times. Have been to Carisbrook and remember the wheel with a horse walking in it. The other places sound wonderful. My neighbour is very good with Max (they have animals of their own so understand) he has hyperthyroid and is 21 so he's on medication and goes up and down, he's on a down at the moment, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for his new medication to work:)

Rosie - I was super impressed with the Sandown one - I am sure Paul will love it there. The geology of the island is fascinating and fossil hunting is always fun whether you find anything or not! I think you will find it has changed little since you visited as a child and teenager. it really is timeless. I went as a child too - we stayed in Shanklin one time and Ventnor I think the 2nd. We took my son and daughter when they were little and the whole family fell in love with the island which is why we go back so much! :) The wheel is still at Carisbrook with a donkey :)

Pleased to hear you have a neighbour where you can leave Max in such safe hands for a few days. He has reached a wonderful age and I do hope the new medication improves his health. Such a worry as they become so much a part of the family.
