Packwood House and Gardens - Part 1: The Carolean Garden

B and I visited Packwood House and Gardens yesterday afternoon. I always try and visit at this time of year as the walled Carolean Garden is a total delight - this year, if possible, it looked better than ever.

A few photos from the East Court - there are several sundials around Packwood - one of these times I'll take photos of them all!

The Carolean (or South) Garden

A little courtyard by the House

Main Herbaceous Borders

The Yellow Border - full of perennials combining the colours of pink, yellow, lavender, carmine and scarlet, following Loudon's "mingled" style (small groups or single plants repeated at intervals using flowers of mixed colours).

The Sunken Garden - created by Baron Ash

The Rose Bays

The Raised Terrace - probably my favourite part of the whole garden. It is just a riot of colour buzzing with pollinators. Its planted in "hot" colours and this year it seemed more beautiful than ever.

I've decided to split the post into 2 parts as I've been naughty again and posted far too many photos!! The next post will include the famous Topiary Garden, The Orchard, Lake and Woodland Walk, the Packwood Follies and the Kitchen Garden.

Packwood looks stunning at this time of year, your photos show it beautifully. I love the Comma sitting in the middle of that flower. I do like the use of chalk boards..they look so natural and at a time when technology is everywhere it's nice to see some old things working so well.

SeagullSuzie - Thanks so much. It did look beautiful although sadly it was very very busy there :( NT seem to go from strength to strength with features like the blackboards :)

Amanda Peters - Thanks very much. Yes, the 3rd photo and a couple of other similar ones were my favourites. Its lovely there - has a very special atmosphere. Plus I've been going since I was a child so every visit brings back happy memories!!

Fabulous photos. I love the flower close ups, especially the little purple hanging bells and the sundial. :-)

Deb - Thanks so much :) I've been trying to id the purple hanging bells because they were so pretty - I think they might be Wand Flowers? They looked so lovely against the grasses.
