Coughton Court - Part 1: The Walled Garden

B and I had a day out yesterday at Coughton Court. Last year I visited in June with a friend and we discovered the Walled Garden which is a total delight at this time of year. Paths meander through a huge variety of roses and perennials and there are hidden arbours, statues and sundials.

Apologies for the huge amount of photos - I found it hard to whittle them down!

The only downside was the fact that the garden was teeming with people possibly because we arrived at 12.00 just as the Walled Gardens open. It was certainly quieter later in the afternoon when we returned for a further look before leaving. National Trust properties, particularly in Warwickshire, always seem to be very busy although its noticeable the further you get from the house and tea room, the quieter it becomes! Its a bit like when you go on holiday and the beach near the car park is always jam-packed with people but you only need to walk a few hundred yards to find a more peaceful place.

I'll do a further post over the weekend showing the orchards, vegetable garden, bog garden, river and woodland walk and a few photos from inside the house which has a fascinating history.

The flowers look stunning and in good health, and you had sunshine. I like the photos of the Foxgloves , like them at the moment. I like to sit and watch people, but if you are taking photos they don't think nothing of walking in front of you !!!
Look forward to your next post.

Amanda Peters - Thanks so much Amanda. There was a superb selection of different coloured foxgloves :) A lot of the photos have people suddenly appearing into one part of them! Even though I waited ages to try and get a people free shot!!! OH was most unhappy - said it was like shuffling round a garden centre!!In fact, initially he refused to walk round :( I've visited that many local properties over the last 10 years that I've sort of got immune to the crowds and can just switch off and pretend there is just me there!

What a stunning garden. I had some yellowy foxgloves once, with brownish spots, can't remember the name now. Of course, one bad winter and they succombed! What a pity this is too far from us for a day out.

Bovey Belle - Thanks so much. I love those yellow foxgloves - we only have the pink ones and the occasional white here at home. If you move to Herefordshire the gardens would be closer :)

Margaret Adamson - Thanks very much - so glad you enjoyed. Do hope you post your photos of the Bangor Walled Garden - sounds beautiful especially with the sculptures. Will look out for it :)

More gorgeous images, thank you. I don't think I would cope well in crowds, I like to be meandering rather than rushing.

Toffeeapple - Thanks so much. Would definitely agree with your comments! I think the mistake we made was to go in there at 12.00 just as it opened and it looks as though many people were waiting for that to happen. Later in the afternoon it was, thank goodness, quieter! :)
