Hi Caroline, wishing you and your family a very Happy and Healthy New Year :-) I'm afraid I didn't manage to comment on the last couple of posts but have thoroughly enjoyed your review. I loved seeing the Olympian scarecrows again, they were really creative and such fun! You really did make the most of the very few decent days we had and your colourful photos make it look like we actually had a Summer after all :-)

Let's hope this year will be much better for us all in every way and that we have some wonderful wildlife encounters!

ShySongbird - Hi Jan - A very Happy Healthy New Year to you and loved ones too :)

Please don't worry about commenting on all posts - did so many in such a short space of time - this year will try and do a much shorter review! The Olympian scarecrows were great. I think I must have gone out on most of the sunny days we had! I was surprised when I went through the photos just how many had been taken in sun after such a rainy year!

I do hope this year will be better (although if honest fear things will only get worse where mum is concerned :( ).

But I do hope for some good wildlife moments for us all. Am hoping to try and see more butterfly species this year. And I have the urge to try some painting - this should be interesting as my drawing and painting skills are non-existent! But I have bought (and sneaked into house!!!) a book teaching you flower painting! So once mum's financial affairs are in order and I have more time I shall have a go! :)

I had to come back on that Caroline :-) I so, so, so wish I could draw!!! I do have a little try from time to time...maybe I should look at some tutorial videos on YouTube, I believe there are some good ones. I do remember a school report where my art teacher said I had a very good eye for colour....to this day I wonder if she got me mixed up with someone else ;-) I had to laugh about you sneaking another book into the house ;-) We really are running out of places to put books. Our back bedroom needs decorating (well, the whole house does really!) and when we do it I think we will buy more book cases to free up some of the cardboard boxes and the dangerously teetering bedside tower!!

I really don't envy you the coming year with the problems concerning your Mum but hope things will be much easier than you fear. Sometimes thinking about these things is worse than the actual reality. Try to keep your chin up Caroline, you will get through it!

Looking forward to the spring bulbs coming up! Not many made it last year but I'm crossing my fingers....

ShySongbird - Hi Jan :) I'll seek out the book I bought (hidden under bed!!!!!) and let you have the title. The YouTube tutorials sound interesting too. You ought to persevere with a comment like that from art teacher! I took 'O' level art course because I got a very flukey good mark in the third year, then managed to drop it after the mocks when I got 27%!!!! The art teacher used to have me in tears because however hard I tried I was just useless!!I think part of me wants to prove to myself I can do it !! Luckily we have paints and watercolour pads because Brian paints.

Know the feeling about whole house needing decorating! Gosh your book collection sounds like mine!! I have 3 massive bookcases which are double stacked one each shelf with teetering piles on the top of each. Plus piles in storage boxes under the bed, in various rooms and more teetering piles everywhere. Family are really fed up with them all - hence the Kindle for my bday!!!! I am not supposed to buy anymore - I sneak books whereas many women sneak shoes and handbags :)

Thanks again for your lovely words of support about Mum. I shall bounce back :) just feel a bit down as I was finally appointed as Deputy mid-December and realised how much work was involved. Coming to terms with her deterioration is heart-breaking too. As you say though I will come through it - just have to break it all down into small steps and stages.

Sorry for such a long comment!

Wessex Reiver - Happy New Year. So sorry about the daffodil false alarm!!!! I had trouble finding a photo as I seem to have used the best ones in past years!!!! Thanks for the inspiration too in your blog re: Nature Diary Writing - a brilliant post of yours :)

Em Parkinson - It will be lovely to see some Spring colour soon. So hope your bulbs do better this year for you. Just remembered we shall have less this year as husband had to extend drive to make room for daughter's new car and the border that was always filled with daffodils has gone :(
