First Fledglings in the Garden

I was really thrilled this morning to see an adult robin feeding two recently fledged young in the garden.

I managed to get a couple of photos with the 70-300mm lens although they were really far too far away so they are very heavily cropped and the light was poor so it was hard to get a fast shutter speed even at ISO800 (i.e. the usual excuses!).

In view of all the rain and cold weather we've had it was a relief to see that at least one species have managed to raise a few young. I wish them luck in what is going to be a dangerous few weeks for them!

Incredible!! I would love to see something like this on our property....but I fear the feral cats would get them first:( We have the hummingbirds but they stay in their nest and never touch the ground...Good luck to these little guys!! Thanks for sharing:)

Thanks Chris - I shall be worried about how they fare as there are so many predators around.

I wouldn't say no to a hummingbird nest in my garden :)

Lovely photos. Our robins are feeding babies at present but so far, no fledgelings. The cats are on daytime curfew though, as "our" swallows have come home and are busy rebuilding their nests.

Lovely to see the fledgling Robin, I like the way your gnome is keeping a watchful eye over the young one, fingers crossed for a positive outcome, Linda

Dartford Warbler - Many thanks. It must be wonderful to have swallows nesting - they are such a lovely emblem of late spring.

Kirstall Creatures - Many thanks Linda. Hopefully the gnome will keep them safe :)

Toffeeapple - they are rather cute! Both were still around the garden yesterday morning.
