Wren and Moth Update

Wren Update

On Friday I found a wren nestling dead on the patio under the hanging basket - it must have fallen out of the nest. Then on Friday evening when I was watering plants I actually saw another one fall out. I don't know if it was injured but it was still alive so we managed to get it back into the nest. The wren is still going in and out feeding young so I am just keeping my fingers crossed that no more fall out.

Total number of moths caught 2010 91

There were quite a few moths that escaped whilst I was potting them and several species of pug I just could not identify and I must admit I do not bother too much with micro moths unless they look fairly distinctive like the small magpie above. There seem to be far more moth LBJ's than bird LBJ's!!!!!

I understand what you are saying Pete. To be honest, although I have always loved butterflies, my interest in moths only developed when we used to attend "Moth Night" events held by our local Wildlife Trust when the children were younger. When I bought my moth trap last year it opened up a whole new world - every day was like Christmas and I couldn't wait to see what I had caught. I just love the variety of moths, many are just as beautiful as butterflies, even the LBJ's can have lovely markings and their names are incredibly fascinating.
